{"id":3266,"date":"2017-05-30T08:00:03","date_gmt":"2017-05-30T12:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/plugpower.local\/?p=3266"},"modified":"2017-05-30T08:00:03","modified_gmt":"2017-05-30T12:00:03","slug":"plug-power-at-utc-telecom-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.plugpower.com\/blog\/plug-power-at-utc-telecom-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Plug Power at UTC Telecom &#038; Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first week in May is UTC Telecom &amp; Technology week, where utility telecommunications professionals gather to share best practices and learn about new technology impacting the industry.\u00a0 Plug Power has been working with utilities since 2008, providing backup power to utility communication equipment in all four corners of the United States, most notably through our multi-year program with SouthernLINC.\u00a0 We were excited to be able to spend time in Charlotte, NC talking with old and new friends about how Plug Power\u2019s GenSure solution can cost-effectively make their networks more robust while also improving their sustainability.\u00a0 This year, visitors were able to interact with us in three ways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plug Power booth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"entry-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plugpower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/20170510_152252.jpg\"<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3265 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.plugpower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/20170510_152252-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Plug Power booth\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Booth 203 was where show floor visitors were able to talk with Plug Power representatives about turnkey solutions for their backup power needs.\u00a0 We enjoyed talking with telecom professionals about our full GenSure fuel cell suite, GenFuel hydrogen solutions and GenCare services.\u00a0 We highlighted the power and communications cabinet currently being used by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ir.plugpower.com\/profiles\/investor\/ResLibraryView.asp?BzID=604&amp;ResLibraryID=74560&amp;Category=44&amp;G=795\">SouthernLINC<\/a> as a robust, cost-saving component to their new LTE network.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Showcase booth: Smart Systems for Smarter Communities \u2013 Utility Operations\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an effort to highlight our continued interconnected society, UTC organizers placed booths in each corner of the show floor, focused on four themes:\u00a0 1. Substation;\u00a0 2.\u00a0 Smart Home technologies; 3.\u00a0 Utility Operations; 4.\u00a0 Renewables Energy technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The utility industry is tasked with providing power to millions of homes and businesses, providing the means for critical transactions every day. When power fails, processes literally stop. For that reason, Plug Power joined two other companies in the Utility Operations booth with a focus on current technology that can help businesses move into the future.\u00a0 Plug Power\u2019s GenSure fuel cells are currently working in utility sites to increase reliability and runtime for substation control (SCADA) and communications networks (utility telecom) \u2013 the keys to maintaining control of the electrical grid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plug Power presentation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Conference attendees were invited to attend our presentation in the \u201cEmerging Technologies for the Future Utility\u201d track where Sales Director, Darin Painter spoke on the topic, \u201c5 Evolutions in Fuel cells for Utility Telecom that can Move Your Business into the Future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"entry-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plugpower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/UTC2017presentation.png\"<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3264\" src=\"https:\/\/www.plugpower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/UTC2017presentation.png\" alt=\"Plug Power presentation\" width=\"549\" height=\"153\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For more detail on this topic, read our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plugpower.com\/2016\/10\/5-evolutions-in-fuel-cells-for-telecom\/\">October blog on the same subject<\/a>.\u00a0 Following presentations by Mr. Painter and the other presenter, the Q&amp;A session was dominated by interest in fuel cells, with all questions going to Plug Power.<\/p>\n<p>It was a good week in the home of NASCAR.\u00a0 With a conference theme of \u201cRacing to Utility Excellence,\u201d we were not surprised that the people we interacted with had their minds and eyes focused on moving their utilities forward.\u00a0 Like these professionals, this is something Plug Power does every day.\u00a0 #InfiniteDrive<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first week in May is UTC Telecom &amp;
